AUTO/MOTORCYCLE INSURANACE
Understanding Auto & Motorcycle Insurance: What You Need to Know
Auto and motorcycle insurance are more than just legal requirements—they’re essential protection for you, your vehicle, and your financial well-being.
Whether you're on four wheels or two, here are the key things to look out for when choosing a policy:
1. Liability Coverage (Required by Law)
This covers damage or injury you cause to others in an accident. Every state has minimum requirements, but it’s often smart to carry more than the minimum to better protect your assets.
2. Comprehensive Coverage
Protects your vehicle from non-collision events—like theft, vandalism, fire, or weather damage. Great for peace of mind, especially if your car or bike is parked outside.
3. Collision Coverage
Covers damage to your vehicle if you're in an accident—regardless of who's at fault. Especially useful for newer or financed vehicles.
4. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
If you're hit by a driver with little or no insurance, this covers your expenses. A must-have in areas with a high number of uninsured drivers.
5. Medical Payments / Personal Injury Protection
Helps cover medical costs for you and your passengers, no matter who’s at fault. This can include hospital bills, rehab, and even lost income.
6. Coverage for Custom Parts & Gear (Motorcycles)
For riders, don’t forget coverage for custom work, saddlebags, helmets, and safety gear. Many standard policies don’t automatically include this.
7. Deductibles & Premiums
The higher your deductible, the lower your premium—but make sure it’s an amount you can afford in an emergency. Always compare what you're paying with what you're protected against.
